Cable trouble
Signs of a Cable Problem
- Door hangs crooked or one side is higher
- Loose cable hanging beside the door
- Frayed or rusty strands near the bottom bracket
- Door jerks or bangs when it lifts
- Cable has come off the drum
Why Cables Fail
Lift cables carry the load from the springs to the bottom of the door. Rust from coastal air and garden sprinklers, a worn bottom bracket or a door that hits an obstacle can fray them. When a spring breaks, the sudden jolt can also throw a cable off its drum.
We replace both cables so they stretch evenly, inspect the drums and bottom brackets, and set the tension so the door rises level.
